Description

It is a dual-purpose inhaler that contains both a corticosteroid and a long-acting beta agonist.  It is used daily to prevent asthma symptoms or chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD)

What is Symbicort Inhaler?

Symbicort is a prescription treatment for those individuals suffering from asthma or COPD. It also helps control asthma and prevent future attacks. Budesonide and formoterol fumarate are the two active ingredients that work in combination to treat asthma symptoms.  Budesonide is a corticosteroid that works as an anti-inflammatory, whereas formoterol fumarate dihydrate relaxes the muscles in the airways.

How Does Symbicort Inhaler Work?

Symbicort is a combination inhaler that contains both preventive and reliever properties. It treats both the underlying causes and the symptoms of respiratory conditions. Budesonide belongs to a corticosteroid group (also referred to as a simple steroid) and is a preventer corticosteroid. It reduces swelling and inflammation in the lungs. Formoterol fumarate dihydrate is a long-acting bronchodilator also used in Symbicort. It helps relax the muscles around your airways and helps them stay open for a longer period.

This dual-action asthma inhaler provides relief from symptoms like wheezing, coughing, chest tightness, and shortness of breath. It also helps manage daily asthma symptoms and improve lung function over time. It is a maintenance therapy and not an immediate symptom reliever, therefore it is important for you to carry a reliever inhaler such as Ventolin with you for emergencies, as the Symbicort inhaler is most effective when used consistently as prescribed.

How to use Symbicort Inhaler

• Symbicort inhaler should be used daily as it is more effective when used regularly, so continue using it even if your breathing feels normal.
• To use, remove the outer cap by twisting it
• Wash your mouth after every use to prevent oral thrush (a common or possible side effect of corticosteroids).

Dosage

• The usual dose of Symbicort inhaler is 1-2 puffs twice a day. However, its dosage may depend upon various factors such as age, the condition, and it’s severity.
