Foundayo is the brand name for orforglipron, a once-daily weight loss tablet made by Eli Lilly — the company behind Mounjaro. The MHRA approved Foundayo on 10 August 2026, and that decision made Britain the first country in Europe to licence it.
Here’s what sets Foundayo apart. You can take it at any time of day, with or without food, and with whatever you happen to be drinking. That’s the whole instruction. There’s no fasting window, no plain-water-only rule, and no waiting period before you can eat.
Anyone who has looked into the Wegovy pill and realised that a rigid early-morning fasting routine simply won’t work for them will understand why this matters. Shift workers. Parents doing the school run. People whose mornings are unpredictable by nature. Foundayo doesn’t ask you to reorganise your day around a tablet.
Foundayo carries a dual UK licence too — approved both for weight management in adults and for treating type 2 diabetes. The Wegovy pill is currently licensed for weight management alone.
Foundayo contains orforglipron. This mimics GLP-1 (glucagon-like peptide-1), a hormone your body releases naturally after you eat. Activating GLP-1 receptors reduces appetite, increases fullness, and slows how quickly your stomach empties. Fewer calories go in, and weight comes off steadily.
The main clinical evidence comes from the ATTAIN-1 study, published in the New England Journal of Medicine. Over 72 weeks, participants on the licensed 17.2mg maintenance dose lost an average of 12.4% of their body weight. The trial also recorded meaningful improvements in blood pressure, cholesterol, and waist circumference.
The reason Foundayo can be taken with food comes down to how the drug is built at a molecular level.
Semaglutide and tirzepatide — the active ingredients in Wegovy and Mounjaro — are peptides. Peptides are protein-based, and your stomach acid destroys them before absorption can happen. That’s why GLP-1 treatments have always needed injections, and why the Wegovy pill relies on SNAC technology plus a completely empty stomach to get anything into your bloodstream.
Orforglipron isn’t a peptide. It’s a small molecule, and small molecules survive stomach acid on their own. No protective technology required. No fasting window needed. The drug absorbs reliably whether you’ve just eaten a full meal or nothing at all.
This isn’t a minor tweak to an existing formula. Foundayo is the first small-molecule GLP-1 receptor agonist approved anywhere in Europe, and the practical difference for patients is substantial.
Foundayo is licensed for adults managing their weight alongside a reduced-calorie diet and more physical activity. You’ll typically be eligible if you fall into one of these groups:
Adults with a BMI of 30 or above — classified as obese
Adults with a BMI between 27 and 30 who also have at least one weight-related condition. That includes high blood pressure, type 2 diabetes, high cholesterol, obstructive sleep apnoea, or cardiovascular disease.
Because Foundayo also holds a UK licence for type 2 diabetes, it suits patients managing both conditions at once.
Every prescription requires a full clinical assessment first. Our prescribers review your medical history, current medications, and screen for anything that would make treatment unsafe.
Foundayo isn’t suitable for everyone. You shouldn’t take it if you have a personal or family history of medullary thyroid carcinoma or Multiple Endocrine Neoplasia syndrome type 2. The same applies if you’ve had pancreatitis, have a severe gastrointestinal condition, or are pregnant, planning a pregnancy, or breastfeeding. Foundayo must never be combined with another GLP-1 medication such as Wegovy, Mounjaro, or Ozempic.
Starting Dose
You begin on 0.8mg once daily. Starting low gives your body time to adapt and keeps early gastrointestinal side effects to a minimum.
Dose Escalation
Foundayo uses six dose steps. You stay at each level for a minimum of one month, and you only move up once the current dose is comfortable. Some patients need longer at a particular step, and that’s fine — your prescriber will advise. Every re-order with Dr Weightmans triggers a clinical review to check the dose still fits where you are.
The Full Schedule
Month 1 — 0.8mg — Starting dose, lets your body adjust
Month 2 — 2.5mg — First increase if tolerated well
Month 3 — 5.5mg — Continued escalation
Month 4 — 9mg — Mid-range dose
Month 5 — 14.5mg — Approaching maintenance
Month 6 onwards — 17.2mg — Maintenance dose
Reaching full maintenance takes roughly five to six months. That pace is deliberate. Rushing the titration is the single biggest cause of side effects becoming unmanageable.
This is the shortest set of instructions you’ll find on any oral weight loss treatment.
Take one tablet once a day, whenever suits you.
Eat first, eat after, or don’t eat at all — it makes no difference.
Drink whatever you like with it.
No waiting period before or after.
Try to take it around the same time each day. That’s for building a habit rather than any clinical reason.
Miss a dose? Take it as soon as you remember on the same day. If you’ve already reached the next day, skip it and carry on as normal. Never double up.
Store at room temperature. No fridge needed.
Practical tip: Since there are no timing rules, most patients find it easiest to pin Foundayo to something they already do daily — breakfast, lunch, or whenever they take other tablets. Pick the moment you’re least likely to forget.

Foundayo’s side effect profile matches the wider GLP-1 class. Most reported effects are gastrointestinal, and they tend to show up in the first few weeks or shortly after a dose increase. They usually settle as your body adjusts to each new level.
Common side effects: nausea, constipation, diarrhoea, vomiting, indigestion, and abdominal pain. The six-step titration schedule exists specifically to keep these manageable. Moving through the doses too quickly is the main reason patients struggle.
Less common but more serious: pancreatitis (severe or persistent stomach pain, with or without vomiting), gallbladder problems, raised resting heart rate, and kidney problems. Stop taking Foundayo and contact your prescriber or seek medical attention if you develop severe or persistent abdominal pain.
Allergic reactions are rare. Warning signs include difficulty breathing or swallowing, or swelling of the face, lips, or tongue. Stop the medication and get urgent medical help if any of these occur.
The MHRA has confirmed it will monitor orforglipron’s safety and effectiveness closely as UK use begins. That’s routine for any newly approved medicine.
Do not use if you have a personal or family history of medullary thyroid carcinoma (MTC) or Multiple Endocrine Neoplasia syndrome type 2 (MEN 2).
Do not use if you’ve previously had pancreatitis.
Do not use if you have a severe gastrointestinal condition that slowing gastric motility could worsen.
Do not use alongside any other GLP-1 receptor agonist — this includes Wegovy, Mounjaro, Ozempic, Saxenda, and Rybelsus.
Do not use if you’re hypersensitive to orforglipron or any other ingredient in the tablet.
Not recommended during pregnancy, when planning a pregnancy, or while breastfeeding.
Orforglipron slows stomach emptying, which changes how other oral medications are absorbed. Tell your prescriber about everything else you’re taking.

The difference that matters most: you can take Foundayo at any time of day, with or without food, and with any drink. Compare that to the Wegovy pill, which must be taken first thing in the morning on an empty stomach, with no more than 120ml of plain water, followed by a 30-minute wait before you can eat anything. Foundayo has none of those restrictions.
Because the two drugs are built differently. The Wegovy pill contains semaglutide, a peptide — a protein-based molecule that stomach acid would normally destroy. It needs SNAC technology and an empty stomach to get absorbed at all. Foundayo contains orforglipron, which is a small molecule rather than a peptide. Small molecules survive stomach acid naturally, so there’s no protective mechanism to safeguard and no fasting window to observe.
Foundayo was approved by the MHRA on 10 August 2026, making the UK the first country in Europe to licence it. It isn’t available to order yet. New medicines usually take a few weeks to reach wholesalers and pharmacies after approval — the Wegovy pill was approved on 11 June 2026 and went on sale roughly three and a half weeks later. Dr Weightmans will stock Foundayo as soon as it arrives, and pre-orders placed now are dispatched immediately once stock lands.
The ATTAIN-1 trial followed 3,127 adults over 72 weeks. Those on the licensed 17.2mg maintenance dose lost an average of 12.4% of their body weight. At the higher 36mg trial dose, average loss reached around 14.3%. Individual results vary, and outcomes depend on taking Foundayo consistently alongside a reduced-calorie diet and more activity.
On trial efficacy alone, Mounjaro leads with roughly 20–22.5% average weight loss, then the Wegovy pill at around 16.6%, then Foundayo at approximately 12.4%. But that ranking doesn’t tell the whole story. Mounjaro requires a weekly injection. The Wegovy pill demands a strict daily fasting routine. Foundayo asks nothing of your schedule at all. A treatment you actually take consistently will often outperform a theoretically stronger one you struggle to stick with.
Not yet. MHRA approval licenses a medicine for UK use, but NHS funding requires a separate NICE appraisal. NICE is due to publish its decision on Foundayo on 18 November 2026. Until that happens, Foundayo is only available privately through providers like Dr Weightmans.

No. Foundayo stores at room temperature in its original packaging. There’s no cold chain to worry about, which makes travelling and everyday life considerably simpler than with injectable GLP-1 treatments.
It starts working from the first dose, though appetite changes usually become noticeable over the first few weeks. The titration schedule runs across six steps with a minimum of one month at each, so reaching full maintenance takes about five to six months. Weight loss builds throughout that period, and the strongest results come once you’ve reached and settled at 17.2mg. Like every GLP-1 treatment, Foundayo works while you take it — stopping usually means some weight returns over time.
Take it as soon as you remember, provided it’s still the same day. If you don’t realise until the next day, skip the missed dose and continue as normal. Never take two to catch up. Because Foundayo has no timing restrictions, making up a forgotten dose later the same day is straightforward.
