What are the Amoxicillin Capsules

Amoxicillin is a widely used antibiotic that contains amoxicillin trihydrate as an active ingredient. It is used to treat many common bacterial infections like throat infections, chest infections, and tooth abscesses, as well as dental infections. It helps your body fight off harmful bacterial infections.

How Does Amoxicillin Work

When the bacteria enter a person’s body, they form a strong cell wall within the body. Amoxicillin stops these bacteria from building a strong wall. Without a strong wall, the bacteria cannot survive for a long time. This helps the body get rid of the bacterial infections. It also helps to reduce the pain and swelling of the gums by killing the bacteria.

Who can take Amoxicillin Capsules

Amoxicillin capsules can be used by

  • Adults
  • Teenagers
  • And children who can swallow tablets easily

Types of Dental Infections Treated With Amoxicillin Capsules

Amoxicillin capsules are used to treat many dental infections, including:

  • Tooth abscess – This is a bacterial infection inside the tooth that causes pain, swelling, or pus in the tooth.
  • Periapical abscess – A bacterial infection found at the tip of the tooth.
  • Periodontal abscess – This infection is present in the gum tissues around the tooth.
  • Post-dental procedure infection – This type of infection is caused after dental work such as root canal treatment or extractions.

Dosage

The typical dosage for adults is:

  • 500 mg every 8 hours (three times a day), preferably with a meal.
  • The duration is normally 5-7 days.
  • Children should use the dose prescribed by their dentist only.

Always follow the dosage and duration prescribed by the dentist. Do not reduce the duration of the medicine even if the symptoms improve and you are feeling better.
