Eczema is managed, not cured – and managed well, it can fade into the background of life. Daily emollients keep the skin barrier strong and flare-ups less frequent, while mild hydrocortisone creams calm the inflammation when a flare does break through, used in short courses as the pack directs. Fragrance-free washes replace the soaps that strip and irritate. If flare-ups are frequent or severe, a GP can step treatment up.
