Chickenpox usually clears on its own, but the week of itching in between can be miserable for everyone. Cooling gels and mousses, calamine and antihistamines can all take the edge off the itch and help prevent scratching, which lowers the risk of scarring and infection. One thing many parents don’t know: ibuprofen isn’t recommended during chickenpox, so stick to paracetamol for fever and ask our team if you’re unsure.
